Lets cut to the chase. This snow thrower has ballz. I used it for the first time today, i live in Wisconsin where we get plenty of snow, and the it ran like a champ. Despite its size it can throw snow as well as a larger snow blower. However the snow chute can and WILL plug up when throwing very WET slushy snow. As the augers suck in snow it will help pull the machine so the operator does'nt need to push very hard at all. Simple and easy to use i like it much better than the much larger self-propelled snow blowers. It's a tad over priced here, i got mine for 9 at another store. It comes fully assembled just add 5w-30 and gas and in not time you'll be done.

I have a lot of area to blow off each week when I cut/edge (corner lot, public sidewalks on both sides, driveway, my sidewalks, patio), and had gone through two Black & Decker blowers in five years. I picked this one up simply because it wasn't B&D, and am a huge fan. I've had it for three years and it's still going strong. It's much more powerful (ie. blows more) than the B&D's. I even use it to blow out my garage from time to time and pre-dry the car when I wash it. The only fault I have with it is there isn't a latch to hook the cord onto so the weight of the handing cord can cause it to come unplugged. A minor inconvenience to not replace your blower every couple of years in my opinion.

Nice upgrade with the rocker-type on/off switch (use to be a slider that never worked smoothly - especially as it aged). It is excellent in all respects except that the two-piece vac tube continually comes apart while you're working. The tube seems to be more flimsy than it used to be. Other than the tube I'd give it five stars. I've been buying Weed Eater products since 1974 and haven't been disappointed except by a few little details. Incidentally, Weed Eater corporate headquarters is almost impossible to contact.

Customer Review: Bad Vac / Good Blower
I bought one of these a few years ago as a replacement for a really old B&D Blower/Vac based on its consistently high CR ratings. Used it one year before the poorly designed safety switch for the vac attachment developed too much clearance and the unit would constantly cut out while trying to vacuum up leaves or whatever. I tried numerous jury-rig fixes to eliminate the problem without totally defeating the safety function. All to no avail. Bought a B&D Leaf Hog while struggling with the Toro as my wife just wouldn't use the Toro because of the frustration of the power cut outs. The B&D leaf hog went 5 years before burn-out. Last year we decided that the Toro was just taking up space in the shed as neither of us would use it anymore. So into the trash it went, though with only a year's worth of real use on it. What a waste of money. What a crappy safety switch design. We decided we'd never buy another Toro blower/vacuum based on our money wasting experience with this unit.

So far so good on this blower. Bought at a time when there were no reviews at all, I have now had it for about 1 month. I have used it a couple times on a weekly basis for blowing the lawnmower and carport off. The blower works as advertised and has a lot of power with both speeds. The vacuum/mulcher works fine, but haven't used it that much. The blower is very light weight which is nice. The only thing that I see as a drawback that I don't like (but haven't had an issue with) is that the plug for the blower is on the front casing instead of the back of the casing, so basically the cord has to wrap around the front of the blower to function. All in all, a great blower at an absolute GREAT price.

After reading the positive and negative reviews on this item, I reluctantly bought this model since it had the features I needed (blow & vac). First of all, the bag zipper split after a few uses. The new bag costs half of what the entire model cost!!! Then the motor smoked. The unit was still on warranty and I took it in for warranty work. The repairman stated that he has had the same problem with like-models and the manufacturer won't cover the repair. It cost me big bucks for something that should have been covered under warranty. The repairman stated I might have persurvered, but it would have taken time and cost more money. He didn't want to hassle with the manufacturer. My recommewndation: Buy another brand and save you grief.

We have had 2 of these (from Lowe's), used primarily for vacuuming. Works pretty well on grass and leaves, but will not pick up Acorns. Major complaint is that the motor burned out in about a year each time. I'm planning to buy a Toro 51599 instead.

Customer Review: Decent machine, but loud, cumbersome

I have this from Lowe's after reading the good reviews in Consumer Reports. I had it for about two or three years and after only a few applications, the zipper on the vacuum bag broke. Zipper is very cheaply made. Converting the machine from a blower to a VAC and vice versa is more difficult than it should be. It is loud, but they all are. If you have something thicker than a 14 gauge cord, you can not use the cable holder on the machine and the cable connector from the fall after a short period of use and the machine will of course be truncated. So ... You have to ensure the cable and the device with one hand. This is a pain in the A $ $! It is a blow / suck hard enough to leaves, as it should, and I think if you are careful enough with the zipper and no consideration of aggravating and power conversion question, then it's ok, at best. Once again, Consumer Reports missed the mark by much to be recommended. There is an average product below average.

Got two seasons out of new, not reconditioned one

I am a petite woman who likes to work in the yard. I give this item 3 stars because while it is light and an effective (powerful) leaf blower, it is LOUD as heck (1/2 hour and your ears will be ringing if you don't wear earplugs) and it has a lot of vibration that is fairly irritating. Also, the nozzel has a tendency to fall off. My husband hates it. I only got two seasons out of it because I didn't put enough of that small engine oil in the gas tank (I was stingy when we were running low). Well serves me right, because the darn thing jammed. I am not buying another of these, though, am going to look for something with less vibration and noise.

Homelite makes good & reliable Leaf Blowers

I think Homelite products are vary reliable , I should know because I bought this unit to replace an 18 year old Homelite blower that still runs , I was about to spend some cash replacing some aging parts on my old blower and I saw this unit , so for a few dollars more I received a completely reconditioned unit . Please note ! this unit is in absolutly brand new condition , WOW!!! I'm impressed , I put some gas in and it started right up , my old blowers wind speed was 150 MPH & my new blower is equal to 200 MPH , so it has more power too. buy-it you will like it.

Extremely useful addition to the Ryobi system

This blower attachment was surprisingly effective. I didn't have high hopes after reading some of the dismal reviews on Amazon, but I use it with my Ryobi system, and its FANTASTIC. Quick (<10 seconds) to add on, and it blows much better (because its targetted to the ground) than my old conventional leaf blower. Not at all awkward to hold. I use mine every week and it works fine. Minor thing to watch out for is leaves covering the air intake, but this is MINOR and easy to brush away with your free hand.

Better than expected blower

I didn't have high hopes for this attachment moving a lot of air, but it really does. Clears the driveway in a matter of seconds. It is not the best for pine needles in thick grass, but neither is a little electric blower.

Good product, not as powerful as it boasts. But it's a good, relatively quiet leaf blower.

Keeps on going

I've had this blower for about 5 years now. It's gotten left out in the rain/snow/sun on more than a few occasions over the years, and it's still going strong. The flex-tube is just now developing some cracks, and the replacement cost for the tube is nearly as much as a whole new blower. Fortunately, it can be used with only the straight tubes. I don't remember what I paid for it, but given it's longevity and reliability, it was well worth it. Oh, and the shoulder strap is great - makes it really easy to use!

Seems fine

This seems to be a fine blower. Although I already had a blower, I bought this one because I wanted to buy the Weedeater Gutter Attachment to clean gutters and saw that a lot of people had problems connecting other blowers (especially ones that didn't have a round exit tube) to the Gutter Attachment. And I thought it couldn't hurt to have another blower - two of us could use blowers at the same time. But the Weedeater Gutter attachment turned out to be very unsatisfactory (that's a separate review), so I don't really need this particular blower now. But I can't hold this against the blower - it seems to be a fine blower.

Works great so far.

I was looking for a replacement for my Weed Eater blower that lasted 20 years. This appears to be identical to that one, except for some minor upgrades. No complaints.

I love it!

I love it! It's cute, which is nice, but I love it 'cause it blows stuff. It works very well blowing stuff. Got a three position switch for gentle, huff and puff, and blow! It's great for cleanup for a carpenter.
I bought this as a naked tool to add to my Makita LiOn collection.
It turned out to be a compact little blower. Very handy. I use it on the job site to clean things off. Today we were cutting Hardie Plank with the saw (dust, crud, etc.). When done we picked up the blower and cleaned the table, the saw and us. At rollup it cleaned off the driveway, the cut station, the garage, etc., etc. Look, Maw! No cords. Just pick it up and blow.
I bought it because on one job I was there on a ladder, trying to blow the sawdust off an opera balcony (very tiny width) by going Puff!, Puff!. This did not work well. Neither did my brush. I finally got a can of air, which did not work very well. (Many repair jobs are all cordless, no air compressor - which would have worked well.) This blower would have been great.

Good quick set up blower - no good vacuum

The blower portion works real well. The hose could be longer so as to not have to stoop at times. An extention wand would be great. The vacuum is useless since the impeller is blocked by a non-removable guard under the intake by a plastic cross. One small leaf blocked it immediately. I laughed at the size when I saw it but it works good for small quick jobs.

Simple and efficient

Recently purchased two of these units for drying out some minor basement flooding. They ran quiet and strong for days on end. Simple 3 speed control, pivoting head, and long power cords. Extra sockets useful too for using with wet vac. For around $60 each, they were just the ticket. Great for use with an indoor bike trainer or rollers too.

Don't buy this! The collection bag is the size of a sandwich bag. The blower is pathetically powered, it barely moves the leaves in my lawn. And finally and most importantly, I used it 5 times and it's broken and Northern Tool says "oh well to bad!" I am out $150 and have nothing to show for it. Run away don't walk.

I have had this unit for 2 years with very little use because of its deficiencies. The bag that shipped it with it blew out the teeth on the zipper. The replacement blew out on the second use. Finally got a new design that worked on the third try. After 8 months the pull cord would not recoil into the unit. Waited 5 months on the repair. Stored the unit for 5 more months with no use. Tried to start it yesterday and the cord will not recoil. Never starts on the first try either. Called Troy Bilt 800 to complain and they said sorry you're out of warranty. I am throwing it in the trash.

Customer Review: You get what you pay for...

And I didn't pay much, but that's no excuse for the workmanship in this product. After just 18 months on the job (and only using it weekly for the front walk and driveway), it ended up in the trash. The handle was never it's strong suit and finally broke free. But that was only the last straw. It's always been a little difficult to start and over the last few weeks has been running for a few minutes and dying. After restarting, it would run a minute or two and die. The fuel filter came loose in the fuel tank, but I couldn't replace without tearing apart the whole thing. Wasn't worth taking it in to get fixed. Rather went out and bought a new blower (different brand and not a 'cheapy').

Customer Review: Works again after self fix

This unit's pull cord was pulled out and didn't retract. It had been sittng in the office shed for awhile so I took it home and manage to get the rewind coil rewound and it started on second pull. Used it briefly to check operation. To fix the rewind coil you have to take the bottom black plastic cover off (t-25 trox) and it exposes the fan. The nut holding the fan must come off next to get to the recoil. Not easy - used pair of clamps and cheater bar on rachet to get it off. Now, taking it apart the recoil spring jumps out and it's a mess. After several attempts it was basically rewinding the spring onto the white pulley WITH the metal plate -feed it through the plate guide opening, and being carefull not to release, it put it back onto the black plastic cover inserting the hook into the receiver. Not easy - but can be done and you have to keep your eyes open to see the position of everything when you take it apart, otherwise your lost.

Definetly a poor design but it can be DIY if you're up to the task. I fumbled around and took 2 hours - Knowing how it's done probally 20 minutes.

I didn't buy this unit - I just was lucky fixing it. I prefer electric as there is no issues with fumes, noise and hot exhausts plus no starting problems - but where the extension cord can't reach this would suffice.

What a piece of junk. I should have never wasted my money. It leaks gas all over and barely runs at full throttle. If you want to throw your money away buy this one.

Not bad for the price

The leaf blower starts and runs fine. I was a little disappointed in the blowing power though. I previously owned the Homelite Yardbroom 25cc and it seemed more powerful. It may be because the blower tube narrows on the end on the MightyLite. I did a little modification on the tube by cutting the end off and attaching some pvc tubing and a 90% elbow and it seems to work better. Haven't had a chance to test it thoroughly yet but the leaves are falling. I was kind of surprised at the packaging, there was none. Just put in a flimsy box which was pretty mangled.
Overall, for the price, I'm pretty satisfied. When it arrived I put the tube on, I had mixed gas already so I poured it in and it started right up.

Customer Review: A Little Whirlwind

I was initially sceptical about the performance of this item, but I live on a hillside where raking is difficult, and decided it was worth a try as I was ordering a multi-attachment string trimmer anyway. The Amazon review indicated it would fit brands other than Poulan, and I was certainly happy when it snapped right on to my new Troy Bilt trimmer. The Amazon review also said the blower would produce a 150 mph jet of air, which I dismissed as ad hype.
I was wrong.
This blower BLASTS! I kicks up a duststorm of leaves, gravel, small branches, and the occasional garden gnome. I works great for my hillside situation, allowing me to jet out leaves from under bushes and garden structures from 20 feet away, and cut my raking time from over an hour to just minutes. I would have given this unit 5 stars, but I have only used it for 2 weeks, and I have no idea of its durability over time.

This leaf blower is wonderful. Most of the cordless brands do not stay charged very long at all. However, this one can be used on a full charge for 30 to 35 minutes, which is so much better.

It's lightweight and easy to use. I even recommended it to my friend, and she purchased one immediately.

Great for small jobs, blowing leaves off sidewalk, etc., or using outside for sweeping instead of using a broom.

I highly recommend it for anyone, and I give it a five star rating!

Customer Review: IT DOES BLOW!! BUT NOT THE WAY IT SUPPOSE TO? (JUNK)

I bought this for my son since he did not want one of the bulky blowers that i have, to use around the yard and to do a few yard clean ups! he wanted something lite weight! Now I'm not comparing this to a commercial blower! But i am to my old craftsman hand held! and I'm not a big fan of homelite products i would have went with a craftsman or ryobi for home use!.

But the price was right and so i figured i would give it a try!

No problems with the engine at first, now it's been 3 months and it wont start!

It's is lite in weight and the backpack has some advantages when doing large volumes but keep in mind also that if trying to use in certain areas you wont be able to get to them as good as a hand held blower because the blower is right handed! you can't bounce it around from hand to hand!. as for power I'm not impressed. i have a hand held that produces 180 MPH also and i feel that the hand held is stronger then this machine! and that only cost me $40 (used). it looks a lot more impressive then it actual is! A lot of people will look at this and think there getting what the big boys use at a fraction of the price! trust me your not. the only thing your getting is the backpack effect nothing more! THIS ITEM IS JUNK!

if you want power buy a good used commercial blower or go with a hand held for less money, this machine is more show then it is go! Don't waste your time or money on this blower.. It does blow but not the way it suppose to!!! 2 STARS WAS TO GOOD FOR THIS CRAP!

This is a great backpack leaf blower...Very powerful and beats the heck out of my old hand held blower....Unit started on second pull and was used for a couple of hours and did not use as much gas as my smaller hand held blower..another great feature is you don't have to mix oil and gas...I would highly recommend this unit.

Troy should make a curved elongated sweeper nozzle to go with this unit as this would make it much easier to direct the air flow in plant beds.

Good Power; Bad Starter

After reading the previous reviews, then others, I was somewhat cautious. I had previously owned a Poulan Weedeater blower, and was very pleased with it. This one has more power, but the XX%$!$#@#$! starter pull mechanism failed on two consecutive machines. Had to return each one. The rope pulls all the way out, and does not retract. After sitting in a warm room, it gradually retracts, but not while standing outside watching the leaves pile up! Yes, I now have my third machine, and am drafting a letter to the CEO of Poulan to suggest that he has a serious design flaw in the rope pull starter. Maybe I got two lemons in a row, so good luck if you decide to purchase one. Were it not for this funky rope pull, I'd rate it a "5-star."

Good blower with minor flaws

Lots of power to pile up the leaves but mulching with this is slow going. The impeller is soft plastic so when using the vacuum attachment you will need to avoid twigs and rocks that quickly grind down, crack, and chip away the blades. Switching between the blower and vacuum is not difficult but you will need a screwdriver. Although there's no cruise control, the unit is fairly light so long periods of triggering not really a problem. Also, the noise was low enough that I could use this while wearing headphones listening to music. Overall, nice power for moving leaves, but definitely not a dedicated mulcher.

Customer Review: don't overload it

I have had the unit for about 2+ years. It is a very good 'blower'. For the first time in the 2 years I've owned it I decided to vacuum some leaves. There must have been a clump of wet ones that got sucked up into it. Within seconds the motor began to burn up. I noticed one of the blades had broken too. With the broken blade it caused it to be unbalanced and consequently did not function well. Conclusion: good blower but be wary of using it as a vacuum.

Customer Review: Toro Rake & Vac 51574--less vibration, lighter vs Toro Ultra 51599

I needed an electric blower for a 9-unit apartment building, for sweeping the balcones, stairwells, patio and carports. I didn't need heavy lawn raking or mulching capability. I wanted one without exhaust fumes and as quiet as possible as I prefer not having tenants throw eggs at me, so gas blowers were right out. These Toros were top rated by Consumer Reports, and the local Home Depot had these two on display out-of-box. As a certifiable gadget-itis afflicted Star Trek fanatic, I was all set to get the fancier one... the red 51599 Ultra. The black 51574 was noticeably lighter though--6.5 vs 7.5 lbs. The Ultra had variable speed vs 2 fixed speeds....however the fixed speeds were not too far inside the extremes of the Ultra--roughly 5% above and 10% below...so it appeared I could trade off maximum quiet for maximum power roughly as well. I also didn't need the mulching capability of the metal impeller. Still, I decided to try them both.

For my application, the Rake & Vac had more than enough power even at the lower speed. Therefore the variable speed of the Ultra was cool, but not particularly useful. The vacuum function on both was fairly weak....I don't think I'd bother digging out and changing the attachments for vacuuming, manuevering this clunky configuration above the debris, unzipping the blower bag into the trash then storing the vacuum attachments then changing back to the blower attachment...it's faster just dustpanning blown debris into our wheeled trash bins. Both had approximately the same relatively tolerable whitish noise spectrum i.e. no irritating tones or whining, like some hairdryer-like blowers. It's a shame spectral diagrams of products' noise are not given by manufacturers...they make a big difference to users. They were also reasonably quiet, though I'd prefer quieter....the Toro website lists them at about 63dBA both at the lower speed...important for an apartment building. Additionally, hearing a blower speed vary is more noticeable than a constant speed...as anyone subjected to a gas leaf blower's operator constantly varying the speed can attest.

But the Rake & Vac's surprising smoothness clinched it for me. I vastly preferred using it...not only is it significantly lighter, but it had much less vibration. This gave it a quality, well balanced feel, vs the rough, buzzy, heavy feel of the Ultra. Looking at the Toro website, the 7.5 pound weight of the Ultra vs the 6.5 pounds of the Rake & Vac is mainly from the 12 amp vs 10.5 amp motor, with another 1 pound maybe from the metal vs. plastic impeller. I'm guessing the vibration could be a badly balanced metal impeller, or maybe just the larger motor.

As the Rake & Vac has more than enough power for my application, I might still try the lighter 4.6 pound Toro Power Sweep 51585, but I suspect it will have a whiny noise spectrum that might be quieter in the dBA sense but more annoying...

If you need that metal impeller or variable speed, you might prefer the Ultra...otherwise you'll probably prefer the lighter, smoother, cheaper Rake & Vac.

We absolutely love this fan. We bought ours a couple years ago and it works as well today as it did then. It cools the room very effectively, and that's just on the lowest speed. Customer Review: Nice item but less than perfect ergonomics for switch location

Bought this to use primarily for the gutter clean-out kit made by the same company. It snaps on very nicely for that, they did that right, but if Wead Eater is going to make in convenient to use their blower with the gutter cleaner, they should also make it convenient to put the switch off and on without letting go of the attachment when you are trying to hold it up to the gutter.

The switch location could not be in a worse location for this. It is in the back next to the extension plug. You cannot even see it when working. I moved it myself to a location right under the forward-side of the handle, where your hand would grip it for nice balance, but it took a couple of hours of crafting and wire work to accomplish.

The plastic body is well-made, not stinky-smelling and construction looks good, and probably casted in this country. The motor looks like it has ball bearings, but the motor says "made in China."

It is extremely light, which is nice for gutter blowing, and packs a wallop of a wind. Quite a value for $30 I paid.

Good value, but would have gladly paid a dollar or two more for a convenient switch location.

I have not used this blower yet, but wonder if the reviewer, the one that said it overheated, used a heavy enough gauge extension cord for its cord length?

Customer Review: Blower motor replacement

This blower was purchased to replace a 20-year old identical Regency Wood Stove blower motor. It is exactly the same motor and blower. However, you will need to retain some of the old motor wiring to cut & crimp. The new motor comes with just a crimped power cord and an attached ground wire. You will need to cannibalize the old wiring in order to use your existing power switch and thermal overload. A minor nuisance.

The new blower might also have to be rotated 90 degrees on the baseplate. In order to gain access to the bolts, you have to pinch and remove the cotter pin and then pull (hard) on the plastic blades to remove. Another minor nuisance. Make sure you have a magnetized socket screwdriver handy.

Altogether, it took my fat fingers about 30 minutes to install. The new blower is whisper quiet.

No pun intended. I'm very happy with my purchase and has made clean up my yard much easier. It's lighter than most so wearing it for hours is not a problem. The only problem (which I had already read in another review before purchase) is that the tubes will not stay together. It is a design flaw. I used Gorilla tape and taped the tubes together, not pretty but it did the job.

This is a great blower for the price if you can overlook the tube issue and don't mind the look of duct tape.

Customer Review: Mulching? What mulching?

Earlier reviews complained about difficulty in finding a button for mulching. I guess they were right; I couldn't find one. The instructions just say the leaves will be mulched as they go through the impeller.

After vacuuming a bunch of leaves and dumping them into a recycle bin, I couldn't really see any evidence of mulching.

The blower and vacuum work very well, however. Don't make the mistake of trying to vacuum leaves from loose dirt; you'll suck up a lot of dirt. Blow the leaves into a pile and then vacuum them.

Still, I like this tool. It's much quieter and easier to use than my gas blower.

Customer Review: Unwieldy/Heavy/Jam Prone and broken

I got two falls out of this leaf-vac before the little male-plastic bar that holds the fan/hand unit into the blowers female part broke as I cleared the 20th jam of the day today and tried to hook the unit back together.
Before it broke...it was heavy even empty and bulky to maneuver. It jammed very easy at the narrow hole from the machine to the bag.
The bag was always flying off my shoulder no matter how I adjusted the strap.
I give it a positive review for the blowing action. It blows grass off the driveway and walkway good. When it wasn't jamming it sucked very dry

loose leaves up. It jams on bunches and god forbid there is a little moisture on them.
Won't buy a B&D replacement.

These bags work well with a few reservations. The last one I purchased did not have the canvas material properly trimmed around the plastic connector and therefore it would sometimes be very difficult to remove it if the canvas got caught in the plastic connector. They also need to put an industrial strength zipper on the bag. The one they use looks more like the type used on a pair of ladies shorts. The zipper on my last one tore loose at one end and in the middle as well. I was able so use the last replacement bag I purchased but it was a lot more trouble to work with than the original bag thet came with my blower due to the problems mentioned above.

I have 6 cats so you can imagined the hair I have floating around. After reading reviews on various websites it seemed like a good tool. It works ok but does not get all the hair out of my carpets. Easy to clean but my large vacuum works much better. It is fine for light duty work but don't expect miracles!

Customer Review: Difficult to use, particularly in cold weather

The B&D vacuum extension is not very effective. The primary issues are:

1. The hose is too short to allow the flexibility of moving around without constantly moving the leaf collection container.

2. The hose needs some sort of clamp to hold it in place on top of the flexible container cover. It tends to pull out of the cover and blow leaves in unintended paces.

3. The hose is fairly stiff in cold weather (32 degrees). This aggravates the problems listed in 1 and 2 above. All of these problems may be resolved by use in warm weather, but leaf collection is normally associated with cold weather.

Customer Review: Great Idea but cheap material

I tried the product the day I got it and was very satisfied with the job it did however, like a review I read before I ordered it the hose is made with very cheap, thin plastic. Within 15 minutes of using it, a twig poked thru the plastic. I guess I will have to start wrapping it in duct tape to toughen it up.

Customer Review: It does work in Virginia!!!!

This is my second unit. The first one would not run at full throttle without bogging down. At half throttle, ran good but not enough air flow. Seemed like a mixture adjustment but did not have the special tool to adjust. It started real easy by following the directions on the casing. CPO sent another, with a return ebill (via email)
The second unit ran great, good power, lots of air velocity, easy to start, cold, hot, and in-between.
The fellow who has the sticking choke problem, note that the choke, does not return manually when you push the lever back. the choke pops off when you press the trigger/throttle, at least on both the units I received.
Both units looked almost brand new, maybe a little shelf wear and a short run to check it out. A few minor scratches on the bottom.
The manual leaves something to be desired!!! It is obviously for a slightly different model than the one received. The main difference is in the starting procedure and the air filter (mine does not have one). Big NOTE here, follow the starting procedure on the casing. The manual and one of the copied pages says hold the throttle while pulling the starter. The other copied page says DO NOT hold the throttle (the one I have). If you hold the throttle, the choke will pop off and you will never get it started cold.... Mine started real easy with choke on, primer bulb 7 to 8 times, pull starter, wait a few seconds after starting then press the throttle. Started the first time on the 3rd pull. The first pull thereafter hot, with no throttle or choke, the 2nd or 3 pull when warm but not hot, with no throttle or choke.
The lack of an air filter is a real concern. The carb has a very course mesh screen over the inlet which is fine for hands, feet, and big leaves, but not dust. Blowing leaves or sucking them up is a very dusty job. All that dust will be sucked into the engine and do nasty things to the pistons, bearings, and cylinder walls. I will find or make a filter to put in it. Hopefully, no carb adjustment or such will be necessary.
I will be using it heavily in about a month or so when the weather permits. If I find problems, I will so report here.

Customer Review: Reconditioned Ryobi Blower/Vacuum & Mulcher

Shipment arrived faster than expected, but I was very disappointed in the packaging. All of the pieces were loose in the box with only 2 paper size sheets of bubble wrap. The motor assembly had punched a hole in the shipping box, but I did not find any evidence of damage, and all the parts were there.
Starting was incredibly difficult every time. At first I thought it would never run after 5 minutes of priming and pulling. I looked for a cause and found out the choke was sticking in the on position. The choke assembly was very stiff and did not return to a normal running condition after moving the lever that engages it. I ended up moving it to the run condition with my finger.
Once I got it running, I found that the tube that mounts to the main motor easily falls off during use. The tubes do not lock in place, and when they come off it kills the engine. Starting it back up was a chore because I had to choke it to get it to start, and then had to deal with the sticking choke.
The manufacturer should be ashamed of themselves. I did not bother to complain because they likely would not care given the condition of this item. I will repair the choke myself so that the machine can be used as it is intended to be.
Needless to say, I am very disappointed in the packaging and poor quality. This machine is very difficult to use and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Customer Review: Leaf Hog LH4500 Black & Decker, excellent plus suggestions

I purchased the Black & Decker LH4500 Leaf Hog back in September of 2008 when the leaves began to fall. It is now Jan 2009 and I hope the leaves are finally all down.
I was initially very suspicious of this Black & Decker product having been bitten by poor quality in other products, but my rating of this product is excellent. It really sucks up and shreds the leaves. I use it both to pick up piles of leaves and to suck leaves from the tops of my junipers where they are a pain to rake. It is really powerful and has no problem sucking up and munching both leaves and twigs.
The leaf bag while initially very confusing is really a great design that allows you to quickly empty the bag and to reseal it. As usual, the manual for the product sucks, but once it is assembled, it is easy to use.
Pros: Does what it says. Easy to use extension cord retainer. Easy to empty bag. Very powerful leaf vac and very powerful leaf blower.
Cons: Difficult to switch between vacuuming and blowing. Until you have done it a few times, it is very confusing and the manual is no help at all. I hardly ever switch it from vacuum to blow, but that is just me. The shoulder strap for the bag is too narrow and cuts into my neck. I nearly threw away the bag closure when I assembled the unit because I could not figure out what it was for. Also the bag closure while easy to use requires a lot of hand/arm strength to remove it. I found that spraying it with silicon spray made it easier to slide the plastic over the bag. Also, silicon spray makes it a lot easier to remove/assemble the leaf bag from the engine and also to remove/assemble the vacuum or blower parts.
Annoyances: There is no way to put the Leaf Hog down without it falling over completely making it difficult to pick up again. It would have been nice if there was a way to put it down so it was easy to pick up again. This may be a small matter when you are 20, but bending over gets more difficult once you pass 60.

Notes: Because the blower and vacuum parts are separate pieces it is easy to lose track of where you have stored them. The variable speed control works well, but is a bit of an overkill. I find I use it only on the highest speed.
All, in all, I am happy with the product, but time will tell if the quality is there.

Customer Review: Great tool for even the casual home maintainer

For many years I have longed for and dreaded fall, having had two different homes with heavily-leaved trees. I finally found the cure. Out of the box and working in 5 minutes and reduced hours and hours of raking and bagging to 45 minutes of vacuuming and dumping leaves, pine needles, twigs, and one unfortunate dog toy (soft, mind you). I design products professionally and this one has met my high standards so far. I certainly hope to get many years of use out of it.

The best thing about this leaf blower is how convenient it is. Battery seems to last quite a while (longer than expected). However, I'm sure it isn't quite as powerful as the gas powered ones. It is light weight and works great for what I use it for (sweeping out the garage & covered porch of leaves/dust)

This is an excellent blower fan, and can be adjusted up and down. Unlike my blue blower fan that only has one speed and I paid $100 for some time ago. And this fan rates right along with it and that is why I bought the Stanley #655702 High Velocity Blower. I hope Stanley will make a heater adapter for this fan and then you can use it in the winter time. Customer Review: Easily the best of its kind

This well-made product already had the highest rating on a well-known consumer testing magazine. I tried to buy it locally so I could clear my leaves quickly after strong winds, but it was sold out at every local store. Not only was Amazon the lowest price, it was delivered fast. I only gave it four stars because it could do with some improvements, but it vacuumed far better than the competition. You still need to get used to it and be a little patient, but it certainly saves time and energy over raking by hand. The big bonus is that the leaves are shredded to a compact size (saving trash bags) and are perfect for composting. My wife and I love the Toro Ultra blower vac 51599.

Toro Ultra 12 Amp Variable Speed Electric Blower/Vacuum With Metal Impeller #51599 Since the untimely death of my husband, I have raked leaves from two large fruiteless mulberry trees and my neighbors cottonwood trees on a half acre lot. This would take me at least two days, working and resting throughout two days. I would then be left with 20 to 30 large bags of leaves that would either be taken to the dump or slowly placed in the garbage bin throughout the next few months.
All I can say is THANK YOU TORO for making such a light weight but powerful tool. I was able to clean my yard in a few hours. I was afraid of using a powerful tool but decided to try. One suggestion, make a more, "user friendly" way of draping the bag over your shoulder. A leather/padding to cut down on the strap tearing into the shoulder area might do the trick. This is a great tool, powerful, yet women friendly!!
